A ‘relaxed’ starting time for Round 2 of 10am (following our AGM and Presentation – report and pics to follow) meant that the chill of the morning had dissipated and Riders were able to circulate in some magic Autumnal weather – not that they were reflecting on how perfect the temperature or trail conditions were but instead they were busy tackling one of the tougher XC courses we have seen in some time. At almost 7 km in length Riders spent a bit longer out on course than usual but it was only the legs that were complaining when they crossed the finish line!
With 76 XC Riders entered, including a healthy field of kids tackling the Development Track before the main event, our strongest field of female entrants in over 12 months, and an always enthusiastic turn-out for the DH side, it was a busy day out at Awaba Mountain Bike Park – a great showcase and test for our revised carpark area.
Riders were also appreciating some of the other improvements made out on course, including a smoother Jenkins Rd section and the newly installed rock armouring after Rocky Corner and Skids for Kids (or should that be Ricky Corner and Skids for Kehoe – thanks again RK for all your hard work out at the track during the week to fix up the nemesis of some people).
It was great to have Oneills Mobile Coffee Van back on site – please keep on supporting them so that we can all get that caffiene and carb hit either pre or post race.
