HMBA put on a stellar race today, with perfect weather and prime trail conditions making for an epic day of mountain bike action. The sun was shining, the temps were just right, and the recent dry spell meant the trails were running fast and grippy—ideal for some high-speed racing.
Well that’s what we were hoping to be able to say – in fact, it was nothing like that. The day started with some promise – overnight rain had left the trails a little damp in spots but as riders set out for the main XC event, despite the grey skies, everyone was looking forward to a great race.
Unfortunately, the heavens opened just over half-way through the scheduled time and conditions deteriorated rapidly. Rivers of water running down the trails and deep puddles brought about a premature end to the race – a decision welcomed by all. We are still calling this a result for Round 3 of our HMBA Awaba Cup, despite not having a podium for the senior race (everyone was too wet and muddy to hang around). Thanks to Steve for setting the course, and Aly and Phil for registering riders from early.
Though in good news for our Juniors, they were able to get their event in before the rain came and had a great time out on the Development Trails. See the photos below from their podium. Thanks to Ev and Mark for looking after our next superstars.
Thanks to all Competitors and Spectators who have come along today despite the uncertain conditions. Our next XC race will be in May in conjunction with our AGM – if you are after some XC race action before then please support our friends at Singleton on 6/04/2025 as they get their season underway.
