Parking
Awaba Mountain Bike Park is a great little place but by the time we have set up everything we need for the Nationals Event Centre we are not left with any room for vehicle parking inside the venue so we have arranged Offsite Parking with new friends of the club, the Dorman’s, at 244 Mount Faulk Road Cooranbong 2265.
There will be signage and Traffic Control to direct cars into the parking – please remember that this is on private property so please be respectful to the property owners. It is also along a shared driveway so there is to be no parking along the side of this ‘road’. Please park in an organised fashion to help accommodate the large number of attendees expected.
Once at the parking we have arranged shuttle buses that will take you and your bike, plus a sensible amount of gear, from there to the main Event Centre. It will take about 5 minutes to complete the bus trip – the main factor affecting shuttle times will be you – please be organised and load your bikes and yourselves quickly and efficiently (at both ends). We are hoping to achieve a 10 minute journey from carpark to event centre for each shuttle – early in the day we will be using the Downhill Shuttle Buses to move as many people as possible (up until they are needed for practice / racing). Shuttles will continue running throughout the day but there may be a short wait depending on how many people arrive when you do – we are aiming for a bus to run every 15-20 minutes so please be patient – this will be the largest event we have ever held and it might take a bit of tweaking to get it right.
Lake Macquarie Council requests that event attendees do not park in any other locations or side streets, and that they are considerate of locals in the area.
AusCycling takes no responsibility for cars parked illegally or for any items left inside vehicles.
PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE RIDING FROM YOUR VEHICLE YOU MUST OBEY THE ROAD RULES. THERE IS AN APPROX. 800M LONG TRAIL (“SIBERIA”) SIGNED FROM THE FRONT GATE TO THE VILLAGE HOWEVER THE REMAINDER IS ON MT FAULK ROAD TO GET TO THE PARK.
PARKING DROP-OFF / PICK-UP AREA (AWABA MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK)
Some of you may wish to head up closer to the park (not encouraged) – a parking drop-off/pick-up area has been established to assist event attendees when unloading items (i.e. bikes) and passengers at the Awaba Mountain Bike Park. This area is noted by the BLACK line in the image below.

SPEED LIMIT INSIDE THE PARK IS 20km/h FOR SAFETY AND TO MINIMISE DUST, AND THERE WILL BE no pedestrian or bike access along Jenkins Rd to avoid accidents and slowing of VEHICLES
There is to be no parking in this drop-off/pick-up area and event attendees are requested to ensure they obey the 2-minute maximum stopping time to allow this area to flow.
Please follow the direction of parking marshals in this area, and ensure you are aware of your surroundings, as there will be heavy foot traffic in the drop-off/pick-up area.
It is also requested that event attendees be mindful of the potential congestion in the drop-off/pick-up area. Attendees are encouraged to allow sufficient time each day, while also noting the venue open times
RESERVED PARKING AREA (VOLUNTEERS, COMMISSAIRES, EVENT STAFF) & ACCESSIBLE PARKING AREA
The reserved parking area is available to individuals provided with a parking pass at Awaba Mountain Bike Park. This parking pass must be displayed on the dash of the vehicle.
This area is accessible also for individuals who hold an Australian Disability Parking Permit. This parking permit must be displayed on the dash of the vehicle.
Update – 13/03/24 onwards
We are expecting large numbers at the park from now on (DH, XC and Adaptive) so here are some updated parking details – please help us by following the rules – please kindly respect anyone that is giving you this information as we are all trying to get you in safely to have fun on your bikes (while we get to stand around in the hot sun all day) – sorry for the wordy post:
1. There will be no access to the park prior to 7.00am unless you are an event official or HMBA Committee Member – Expo / Pit holders will be allowed in as soon as we have the correct staff in place.
2. From 7.00am to 8.20am you will be allowed to drive into the park to drop off passengers and equipment at the designated “kiss and ride” zone – the driver will not be allowed to leave their car – we are aiming for a quick turnaround inside the park – once you are unloaded you will drive out to the main parking area/s (see below) – we may choose to only allow a specific number of vehicles in at a time to control traffic on the road – speed limit is 20km/h for safety and to control dust
3. It does not matter if you got there before 8.20am and are in the queue – no more rider cars will be allowed to enter after 8.20am – the only cars allowed in after then will be officials, volunteer marshals or disabled parking permit holders (Traffic Controller will manage).
4. The reason for point 3 is that downhill shuttles will commence at 8.00am for the Track Walk.
5. After 8.20am a Drop Zone will operate at the front of the park (where Jenkins Rd joins Mount Faulk Rd) – from there people will need to walk or ride in along the designated trail – no humans will be allowed on the road into the park.
5. We will have 2 parking areas in operation for riders and spectators – Traffic Control will be in place to direct you to the available option – we will aim to fill the closest option first and then utilise the option that has been more widely advertised (244 Mount Faulk Rd).
6. Shuttle Buses with bike trailers and some luggage holding capacity will operate from both carpark areas, or you can walk or ride to the park ensuring to do so safely along the road.
7. We ask that no one park along the side of the road between the first Traffic Control point and the Park – this will cause headaches for everyone – don’t be that person!
8. Volunteer Marshalls – who all of the riders should thank+++++ – will be able to park in a designated area inside the park – please identify yourself to Traffic Control at the front gate.
9. Adaptive Riders – do what you did today – we will try to park you a bit more efficiently though
These arrangements will stay in place until further advice is provided – we may need to tweak things as we go.
Spectators
We will be advising of key spectator viewpoints for each day of the event soon. Please remember that this is native Australian bush and we love it – please stay on formed trails and in designated viewing areas, and be mindful of the local wildlife – aside from the obvious mammals don’t forget our insect and reptile friends. Please look after their homes – some of them don’t take too kindly to intruders.
Downhill is always a great thing to watch but it does mean that there is a big hill to negotiate. We are planning to have options on the Shuttle Buses for spectators, perhaps even separate buses, but it will all depend on the ‘space’ we have with the transport of riders – we hope to have more information by the start of the event, and will certainly be able to advise on the day/s.
Our clear preference is to not have cars driving and parking up the Mount Faulk Rd hill as this can create a major safety issue for the Shuttle Buses, as well as impact on turnaround times – please follow the directions of the Traffic Controllers and Event Officials, and also be aware that Mount Faulk Rd is an open public road on which the NSW Police operate.
Don’t drive dangerously or park in stupid places. Thanks!
