You can’t deny that 2020 has started out a bit crazy – hot weather, fires, storms – we’ve had a bit of it all. And on top of all that our beloved Awaba Mountain Bike Park has been closed since before Christmas.
So it should come as no surprise that riders came out in droves for the first day that the Park has been officially open for the new decade. We had 108 Riders out on course for the main race, and about 16 youngsters for the Kids Ride – woohoo!
The really big news for the day was that when combined with the paying DH entries HMBA will be able to make a donation of $1000 to a local group/s that have been affected by the recent NSW bushfires – we are still confirming the details for this and will make a further announcement shortly.
For the Riders entered for the race they knew it was going to be a tough one to win – you couldn’t look left or right without seeing an Australian National or World Champion, an Olympian or Commonwealth Games Representative – this was one stacked (and large) field.
A big congrats to Olivia Gollan and Cam Ivory for taking out the A-Grade first places. I don’t think anyone really finished the race unhappy – getting out on the surprisingly muddy trails was a great start to the 2020 racing calendar.
