A Thrilling Test of Skill and Endurance in Wild Conditions;
The Round 3 Awaba Cup Downhill, often referred to as the Formula 1 of Mountain Biking, took place under exhilaratingly wild and wet conditions, pushing every rider to their absolute limit. With weather monitoring in full effect from the early hours, officials remained on high alert, constantly evaluating the radar. After much deliberation and consultation with riders, the decision was made: the race would go ahead, offering competitors the kind of challenging conditions one might expect in the rugged terrain of the European Alps.
As practice sessions neared completion, the weather took a turn for the worse, closing in and transforming the track into a wild river of raging rapids. Riders from across the region – including those from Coffs Harbour and the Hawkesbury – gathered at The Monkey, ready to take on the fierce course.
The rain-slicked trails and challenging conditions didn’t stop the riders from pushing through, displaying incredible skill, courage, and determination. Despite the elements, every competitor rode with exceptional precision, completing the challenging course and gaining invaluable experience for future competitions.
A huge round of applause is due to the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring the event ran smoothly despite the difficult conditions. The success of the event would not have been possible without their commitment and hard work. It’s no easy feat managing in such tricky weather – but the volunteers truly rose to the occasion. Congratulations to all the riders who embraced the elements and showcased their talent, as well as to the volunteers for their unwavering support in making the Round 3 Awaba Cup a resounding success. What an incredible day of racing, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for these fierce competitors!
(The next club event will be on 12/13 April – it is Round 1 of our popular G-Flow series – entries will open soon).
