After the showery day Saturday, Sunday turned out fine and sunny for the second round of XC racing at Awaba for 2021. Dean had set a sympathetic “6km” course to welcome everyone back from the Easter Chocolate binge with the course having as little climbing as is probably possible for the Awaba trails (but seemingly a little more distance than the promised “6km”).
The brand new “Chute” bypass, “The Chicken Run” was opened for the first time and held up surprisingly well given the rain on Saturday and the lack of riding compaction. Several off camber muddy corners made traction a little dodgy and ensured that you certainly couldn’t be chicken if you wanted to attack the bypass at speed.
The kids showed us all how to have fun and speed in their own race on the Development Track – Jorja, Louis and Hazel all had a go, with Louis leading the way across the line.
A total of 81 riders turned up and there were lots of slightly muddy, smiling faces at the finish line.
The Main Podium results are:
A Grade Women – Laura Renshaw, Em Dreaper, Georgia Marjoribanks (we know your secret and have made the adjustment for you)
A Grade Men – Chris Aitken, Mitch Lozinski, Caleb Agostino
NOTE: – Results are at this link – yes we know there are some issues to sort out (like some numbers needing names) – if you need anything addressed please email firstname.lastname@example.org:
We also had a “Come and Try Day” for 15 Ladies and beginning Junior riders following the main race – this was a great success with plenty of smiles and seemingly some new competitors for XC racing in May 2021! Thanks to everyone that came out and had a go, and to everyone that helped out with the event (especially Simone for her Lumberjack Cake – it’s a shame Dallas didn’t get to try a piece 🙂 )
Reminder: BRING YOUR RACE PLATES to the next race – thanks.
(apologies for the lousy pics – it was darker in there than the photos show – I gave up after a while)
