The club June XC race was run at the Singleton Maison Dieu TSR track this month trialing a more standard graded set lap format rather than the previous 3 hour races that have been run in Singleton. We will be asking for feedback from the club members on the race format for the non-Awaba rounds in the near future, so keep an eye on the home page.
Singleton was pleasantly dry compared to Newcastle Sunday and a sweltering 13 degrees rather than the usual frosty zero from previous years. A shortened loop of 7 kms had been prepared and the track was dry and grippy with remarkably few cow pats to contend with. A big thanks to the crew from the newly formed Singleton Mountain Bike Club for mowing and prepping the tracks and parking area for the event. It was fantastic to see a good number of new riders competing in their first event and from all accounts making a great job of it.
One highlight of the day was the tussle between Laura and Emily in the A grade ladies as the open nature of the Singleton course allowed you to watch them flying around the course wherever the tracks come close and there was never more than 3 metres between the two of them for the entire race. At the finish, it was Laura who pipped Emily but not for a lack of trying to pass on the last jump by Emily.
We are still coming to grips with our new track box timing system and unfortunately there were some technical difficulties caused by the RFID tags on the older club number plates. Thanks to Clint for persevering with the problem and manually over-riding the system whenever he could. However, there may be some riders who will not have been timed. Our apologies for this, but on the positive side, the problem and solution has been identified and will be rectified before the next round.
NOTE: – Results are at this link – if your name is not already on the list (i.e. due to the plate chip issue) please email us on where you believe you were placed (i.e. Riders you finished before or after) and we will make a manual entry – email@example.com:
The next club XC Round will be Sunday 18th July at Awaba MTB Park.
Reminder: BRING YOUR RACE PLATES to the next race – thanks.
