It was a welcome return to the Singleton Maison Dieu track for the 2nd XC race of the year. How nice it was driving into the gates early on a magical Sunday morning, with the mist lifting of the Singleton hills and the dew glistening off the grass. Everybody eager to race after grabbing an early morn coffee from Kerri and her Gourmet Coffee Cruiser. And many thanks to the Singleton MTB club for setting a very nice 6.8km loop.

After the usual Pre race brief and banter, the gun riders were sent on their way. It was the usual rumble at the start for us C graders, with a few bikes and elbows touching and some terse words exchanged, before settling down to a nice pace. That was until our club president whisked past me. I was keen to stay on his back wheel, but alas he was too quick. It wasn’t till I passed my good mate Greg ‘Whacky’ Wilson, and then Tony ‘Skinny’ Edwards, that I picked up the pace. After starting my 3rd lap did I decide to catch our elpresedento (Josh), which I did mid lap and it was a great tussle to the end, but I managed to hold him off as we both crossed the finish line, 0.3 seconds apart!

A great race, on a great track, with the usual awesome people attending. Congrats to the winners:

A grade: Neil Upton & Sophie Knox

B Grade: Clare Desmet & Peter Morrison

C Grade: Kuba McCormack & Terence Stockil

D Grade: Judy Tynan & Don Mcwha

E Grade: Liam Harvie
